Ok, THIS piece of news made me happy. Of course it's food related, so of course it made me happy.
Baltimore's food trucks will be converging on a lot in Harbor East (421 Central Ave) this evening. They'll be selling from five to ten o'clock.
Depending on how late I leave work, and how crowded it is, this might be a dinner stop on the way home!

HoCo Blogger Party!
Hey everyone, in case you hadn't heard, the next HoCo Blogger party is coming up.... tomorrowThursday!
There have been a few blogger parties so far, but this is the first one I could make. I'm really looking forward to meeting other local bloggers at this event, hosted by 53 Beers On Tap and Computer Blues.
If you blog in Howard County, or are interested in reading blogs from your community, HoCoBlogs is a great resource. There are tons of local blogs that cover all sorts of topics including Community, Food, Tech, and Arts.
The Blogger Party will be held at Second Chance Saloon, 5:30-7:30pm. Beer, and maybe even some tasty wings, will be had by all!
Hope to see you there!

Wednesday Weeklies
Hey everyone, here are some highlights from the week and points of interest for the upcoming weekend...
Did you know that Ellicott City hosts a literary pub crawl on the first Thursday of each month? Me neither! More info here.
Don't forget the Howard County Library's holiday music Coffeehouse on Dec 2. Are you a musician yourself? Register in advance with Jean Salkeld at 410.313.7766.
This weekend is Breakfast with Santa at the Columbia Mall. I remember going to these as a kid when they were held at Woodward & Lothrop. It was awesome, and instilled in me a deep love of pancakes rolled up and stuffed with apple filling. Now it's held at the Nordstrom Cafe, at a cost of $10/person, proceeds to benefit the Howard Hospital Foundation.
Saturday, the Supreme Sports Club will be holding an 'Iron Fitness Challenge' - 140.6 minutes of activity. The breakdown is 20 min swim, 80 min bike, 40.6 min run = 140.6 min. (Full disclosure: I teach lifeguarding for the Aquatics Department at Columbia Association) (Second Full Disclosure: although this seems like a cool event, I'll probably just do Bagel Run)
On December 4th and 5th, consider attending an art show to benefit the Ulman Cancer Fund. View the work of local artists. RSVP 410-461-3400 or email dulman at connext dot net or cherylduvall at mac dot com.
The Columbia Jewish Association is holding a Latke Potluck and Auction on Tuesday, Dec 7. Click here for more info. Can we say... yum?
C2.0 covers Ken Ulman's plan to transform the county. Recap and video available. Also, HoCoRising listened to Ulman's weekend Q&A.
HoCoRising also points out that the economy is on everyone's mind, and HoCo is not immune. Sarah at Sarah Says posted an interesting recap and analysis of a discussion on the federal deficit.
Sarah also recaps her CSA experience. I'm really hoping Matt and I do a split-share in a CSA for 2011.
HowChow mentions bubble tea at Ichiban Cafe, a place in Columbia that just opened. As I understand it, they offer free WiFi, so this is a spot I've been eyeing for writing later in the month. Look forward to trying it!
Did you know that Merriweather Post Pavilion ranks in the top three venues in the world? A shame that Jimmy Buffet doesn't play there anymore. Check out the story on Patch.
Erinn re-posts an entry about holiday decorating, something we've not even begun to do (but we are doing! See future post.)
Finally, Cindy posted about her Marathon experiences on Thoughts from a Swimmer. It was so awesome that they're looking forward to Shamrock fest in 2011! The highlights, particularly about how they ran it together, are a really nice read.
Post-Black-Friday, enjoy your holiday shopping. Don't forget to look for the generic and/or scary holiday presents out there.

The Columbia Orchestra will be performing an event called "Earth and Sky" at the Rouse theater in Columbia on December 4. For more info and ticket prices, check out their site. I've seen them several times and they're really good.
Just in case you need more arts, the Columbia Pro Cantare group will be performing Handel's Messiah at Rouse theater the next evening, Sunday December 5, at 7:30pm.

Wednesday Weeklies
Welcome to the first installment of Wednesday Weeklies, where I offer a few of the interesting happenings and links that I've stumbled upon during my trip through the internets.
HoCo blogger? HoCo Blog reader? Check out the next HoCo blogtail party at Pure Wine Cafe on Nov 30. If you haven't been to PWC before, it's worth a check-out - it's a cute little wine bar (really, it's little) right off Main Street in Ellicott City. I wasn't wild about the customer service on my first visit here, but I was with a group more or less overwhelmed the place... so I'll have to try it again.
Worried about tanking on turkey this year? Check out the Howard County Striders' Thanksgiving Prediction 10K on Thursday. Registration starts at 8:30a. Cheap race, and a really nice run through my old stomping ground. Hope the rain holds off!
Black Friday kicks off on Friday morning, with some Columbia Mall stores opening as early as3:00am midnight. The mall officially opens at 6:00am. Will I be there? With my camera! As part of a strategy to attract customers despite the lagging economy and lukewarm deals, giveaway bags will be distributed near Lord & Taylor and include chances to win an iPad, a flat screen TV, and more presents for me prizes.
If you can't wait that long to get in a fist fight over this year's version of Tickle Me Elmo, Arundel Mills Mall will be opening at midnight on Thursday (or 12:00am on Friday, whichever you prefer).
Still not in the holiday spirit? Check out the Howard County Library's holiday music Coffeehouse on Dec 2. Are you a musician yourself? Register in advance with Jean Salkeld at 410.313.7766. Remember Libraries are closed on Thursday and Friday of this week.
Don't forget about the Symphony of Lights, open now through Jan 2. (except for Dec 31)
Check out an interesting discussion on Sarah Says about the disparity between male and females blogging. There's Part I and Part II.
I keep walking past Nazar market, and HowChow posts about them again. You win, food-blogger-guy. I will check it out when I go for my next Bon Fresco fix.
Is there an increase in crime in Howard County, or are stories just more visible in the local news network? In light of recent violence - the brutal murder of a homeless woman and an assault on a Jessup jogger - take the chance to join in an honest discussion of crime in the area.
Congrats to Lisa Rossi of Columbia Patch/Domestic Wrecks on the birth of her baby boy (who was not named Sweatshirt)!
Milo goes to puppy school, much to Meathead and Grimace's relief. Maybe Grimmy can get his GED.
Interesting mention on a Tale of Two Cities about airport screening - not what I expected. News reports blown out of proportion? System overwhelmed? Will have to keep an eye on the news this weekend.
Check out a cool interview with Astronomer Andrew Rivkin on One Writer's Mind.
That's all for now on Wednesday Weeklies (Weekly? It's the first one. Hm.).
See you all for the Thanksgiving post tomorrow. Travel safely!
